O The earthquake occurred at 9:46 am (01:46 am, in Lisbon) and the epicenter was in the Artush region, in Xinjiang province, in an area that borders Kyrgyzstan, reported the official Xinhua news agency.

The earthquake comes after another tremor last night caused the deaths of at least 116 people in Gansu province, also in the northwest of the country.

So far, authorities have not reported any victims or material damage in this earthquake.

This second earthquake occurred more than 3,000 kilometers away from the first, in an area inhabited by the Uighur and Kyrgyz ethnic minorities.
