Dad dug the grave of his son who he thought was killed during an Israeli rescue operation

In the midst of the rescue operation carried out by Israeli forces in the Nuseirat refugee camp, in Gaza, heartbreaking testimonies of those affected were known. The operation, which had the objective of freeing 4 Israeli hostages, left a balance of more than 270 killed and nearly 700 injured.

One of the most shocking stories is that of a father who, believing his son was dead, dug his grave: “Shrapnel hit In their head, they told me he had died. He had already finished his grave”said Raed Abu Youssef, Tawfik’s father.

“I was there at the grave and suddenly people told me that my son was already among the martyrs,” The father told about the moment when his little son, who had been presumed dead, was found alive.

Tawfik is the father’s only remaining son after losing three in other incidents. One of them died of cancer and their other two daughters were killed in an Israeli attack on March 19.

The little boy was at home, sitting on his mother’s lap when the Israeli forces began the operation: ““What did my children or all the children do to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu?” the father questioned through tears.

The situation in Gaza is desperate for many families like Tawfik’s, who face a lack of adequate medical resources, food and water.

“This child needs to travel to receive treatment because resources are limited. We cannot close the border crossings and that hinders the possibility of him receiving treatment outside of Gaza”explained Omar Abu Taqia, maxillofacial surgeon.

“You are talking about 200 dead to claim that you freed the hostages. You destroy an entire house and kill 200 martyrs to free them” said Mohamed Al-Tahrani, another resident of the camp,

Meanwhile, the freed hostages were identified as Noa Argamani, 26 years old; Almog Meir Jan, 22; Andrey Kozlov, 27; and Shlomi Ziv, 41, who receive medical care in Israel.

The hostages are suffering from severe nutritional deficiencies and receiving psychosocial support to cope with the aftermath of months of captivity. Their families have expressed their gratitude for the rescue efforts and their immense happiness for the reunion.
