Since this morning, border police and secret services have detained nine wanted people, confiscated weapons and 50 vehicles and interrogated suspects across the West Bank, the Israeli Army revealed in a statement.
Israeli forces highlighted that they have already carried out 4,150 arrests “of interest” in the West Bank since the start of the war in Gaza, with 1,750 people suspected of having links to the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas.
Palestinian sources reported today a total of 20 arrests across the West Bank, including children, adding that police operations took place — with military tanks and dogs — also in the cities of Bethlehem, Betunia or Dura.
According to data from the Palestinian NGO Prisoners Club, there have been more than 9,300 Palestinians detained since October 7th, not counting those under house arrest or those taken to military checkpoints.
The occupied West Bank is experiencing its greatest spiral of violence since the Second Intifada (2000-05), and so far, in 2024, at least 219 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces, most of them alleged militants or attackers, but also civilians, including around 43 minors, according to an Efe count, after 2023 was the deadliest year in two decades, with more than 520 deaths.
Since the Hamas attack on October 7, repression has increased and since then at least 545 Palestinians have died in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, in incidents with troops, and a dozen of these at the hands of settlers.
On the Israeli side, fourteen people died in 2024: twelve in nine Palestinian attacks, six uniformed soldiers and six civilians (five of these settlers living in the West Bank), as well as a soldier in Jenin who detonated an explosive with her vehicle and a police officer during an operation in Tulkarem.
