Following the incident that occurred at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, where the 2024 Copa América final between the Colombian and Argentine national teams took place, and in which the president of the Colombian Football Federation (FCF), Ramón Jesurún Franco, and his son Ramón Jamil were arrested, it was announced that they were released after paying bail.

Could Ramón Jesurún and his son’s visa be revoked?

The termination of a US visa can occur for a number of reasons. Among the most common reasons for the US government to cancel this type of document are:

  • Having an illegal act that may merit prison time.
  • Breaking any traffic rules in the territory.
  • Having a criminal record and hiding it when applying for a visa.
  • Help people who do not have proper documents enter the United States.
  • Work or study without a visa corresponding to these activities.
  • Purchasing merchandise for resale outside the United States.
  • Traveling to the country with prohibited items such as explosives, drugs or weapons.
  • Failing to declare sums of money greater than $10,000 dollars when traveling.
  • Marrying someone “out of convenience” in order to be able to settle in the United States.
  • Not to attend pending legal proceedings before federal, state or local courts in the United States before returning to their country of origin.

What did Ramón Jesurún say about the incident at the Copa América final?

“I didn’t hit anyone, I didn’t hit anyone, I defended myself. Look at the video where we were abused,” said the FCF president.

He added that “My comment is very clear, this credential for me says full access. And a security guard, one of those who want to act important, ignored it. I insisted that I could go in and he pushed me, and a ridiculous, unfair riot broke out, where children were run over. Investigate that it is because of this man that children have been run over.”

The press has shared that the bail that Jesurún had to pay, after facing charges of assaulting a public employee, was $2,000 or 7,869,640 Colombian pesos.
