Chacuti or Xacuti (chicken) Goa style (India), a typical dish of Indo-Portuguese cuisine from Goa. A good choice for lunch or dinner with friends or family.
Ingredients
- 2 kg of chicken thighs
- 1 large glass of coconut milk
- 4 large tomatoes, skinned and seeded
- 3 medium onions, chopped
- 2 crushed garlic cloves
- 1 packet of unsweetened shredded coconut
- 2 tablespoons of vinegar
- 1 teaspoon ground spices
- Salt to taste
- Oil for sautéing
Preparation Mode
- Preheat the oven to 200ºC.
- Wash and season the chicken to taste, removing excess skin.
- Make a marinade with all the ingredients except the powders.
- Bake in a baking dish until golden brown. Set aside.
- In a frying pan, add the grated coconut and spices and stir, without letting it burn, with a wooden spoon.
- The point is the brown color.
- Remove from heat and set aside.
- In a pan, sauté the garlic, tomatoes, onions and add the roasted chicken.
- Mix well, add half of the spices and take the rest to the table in a bowl.
- In the pan, add the coconut milk, two glasses of water, the vinegar and let it cook for approximately 20 minutes, allowing it to thicken a little.
Mom’s Tips
You can use chicken thighs or chicken wings.
Spice mix: black pepper, calabrian pepper, cumin, coriander, saffron, cloves and cinnamon.
The glass of coconut milk contains 500 ml.
The package of grated coconut is 100 grams.
The chicken and sauce will turn brown in color.
Before serving, sprinkle with chopped coriander leaves.
Serve with white or brown rice, straw potatoes or sautéed potatoes.
Yields approximately 10 servings.
