ABrazilian authorities confirmed, in a press conference, that the black boxes of the plane that crashed this Friday in Vinhedo, São Paulo, Brazil, have been found.
Marcelo Moreno, head of the Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa), explained that he is waiting to obtain the recorders to find out whether it will be possible to extract data from the black boxes.
“We have the capacity to obtain this data. However, due to the severity of the event, the recorder is exposed to such high temperatures that the internal equipment is damaged, making extraction impossible. However, when this occurs, we have a partnership agreement with investigation agencies in France, Canada or the United States. If we are unable to do so, we will go to the manufacturer itself. We are ready to bring the recorders to Brasilia to begin extraction to obtain important information to recount the accident,” said Moreno.
Asked if there were notifications from other aircraft of meteorological problems in the area where the accident occurred in Vinhedo, Marcelo Moreno said he had no information, adding that the available data indicates that an emergency situation was not communicated by the aircraft.
“That will certainly be investigated, but it is too premature to say. What I can say is that the aircraft, at no time, reported any type of emergency,” he said.
The person in charge also explained how the investigation work will be carried out, speaking of two major responsibilities:
“A plane crash is a catastrophic event, completely undesirable for society. The Brazilian state has two major responsibilities. First, the criminal investigation, which seeks accountability. The other major responsibility is the aeronautical investigation, conducted by Cenipa, whose objective is to provide society with safety in air transport. We work with contributing factors, with the objective of issuing flight safety recommendations, which are not punitive,” Moreno highlighted.
At the same press conference, those responsible for the National Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that the aircraft’s status was regularized and that Voepass was fully in agreement with the activity carried out, being registered as a regular transport company.
However, Voepass also released the list of people who were on the plane and corrected the number of passengers on board. There were 57 passengers and four crew members on the aircraft, resulting in a total of 61 fatalities.
The company has released a 24-hour telephone number to provide information to family members, employees and interested parties and said it is working with the authorities to determine the cause of the accident. The company also assured that the aircraft took off without any flight restrictions, with all its systems ready to carry out the operation.
The crashed flight is COO 2283. The plane had left Cascavel, in the state of Paraná, bound for Guarulhos airport, in the state of São Paulo.
