The latest case is that of twins Aisel and Aisar Abu al Qumsan, born just four days ago, and who, according to the Palestinian press, died along with their mother in an Israeli bombing of their residence.

Gaza’s Hamas-controlled health ministry said the attack took place as the babies’ father had gone to obtain birth certificates for his two children.

Mohammed Abu Al-Qumsan, 31, had just collected the birth certificates for his twins, when he discovered that they had been killed by Israeli bombing along with his wife and mother-in-law. The house where they were taking refuge was destroyed.

The man waved the laminated documents with the names of his children and said he received a call from his neighbors telling him that the house where they were staying had been bombed: “My wife is gone, my two babies and my mother-in-law.”

Mohammed collected the bodies of his twin babies wrapped in white sheets and, with a lost look and desolation, tried to digest the devastating news.
