“IWe urge Israel to immediately and transparently investigate these allegations and hold those responsible accountable,” US State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel said at a press conference.

Israel “has a responsibility to comply with its obligations under international law,” he said.

“I also want to stress that at this point this is just information, which is why we encourage Israel to investigate it,” he added.

According to the Israeli daily Haaretz, the Israeli army uses Palestinians to search tunnels and buildings during its operations in the Gaza Strip.

“It is better that they exploit them and not the soldiers,” was the justification that the Israeli military received from its senior commanders.

“They said that our lives are more important than theirs and that, at the end of the day, it is better for our soldiers to be alive than to be hit by an explosive device,” said some of the soldiers interviewed by the Israeli daily, which is one of the most widely read.

The ongoing war between Israel and Hamas was triggered by an unprecedented attack by the Palestinian Islamist group on Israeli soil on October 7, 2023, which caused around 1,200 deaths and more than two hundred hostages, according to Israeli authorities.

According to the Israeli army, of the 251 people kidnapped, 111 remain held in Gaza, of which 39 have already died.

Following the Hamas attack, Israel launched a large-scale offensive in the Gaza Strip, which has already left nearly 40,000 people, mostly women and children, around 92,000 injured and a humanitarian disaster, destabilizing the entire Middle East region.
