DTwo people were killed after an attack in the Kryvyi Rig district of central Ukraine, local official Evgen Sytnychenko announced on the Telegram messaging platform.
A man was also killed in an attack by an Iranian-made Shahed drone in the eastern Zaporizhia region, local governor Ivan Fedorov said.
Air alerts are in force across Ukraine, with the exception of the Odessa region (south) and the capital, Kyiv.
“The Ukrainian Air Force confirms the take-off of several Tu-95ms bombers [russos] (…) The missiles may enter Ukrainian airspace in about two hours,” the Ukrainian air force said at around 04:00 (02:00) on Telegram.
Drone attacks have also been reported.
Russia launched a massive combined attack on Ukraine on Monday using “at least 127 missiles and 109 explosive drones” called Shahed, Ukraine’s president said.
“It was one of the biggest attacks, a combined attack,” Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video broadcast on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
The Ukrainian President added that the attack was directed against civilian infrastructure.
Ukraine has shot down 201 of 236 aircraft launched by Russia, Ukrainian air force commander Mykola Olestchouk said, denouncing “the biggest missile strike” since the start of the war.
According to Ukrainian regional authorities, four civilians were killed in four regions of the country during the attack, which affected 15 of Ukraine’s 24 administrative regions.
“There is a lot of damage to the energy system,” Zelensky said, adding that work was underway to restore supply in areas where blackouts occurred.
Ukrainian power distributor Ukrenergo carried out emergency power cuts to stabilize the grid, briefly halting rail traffic.
Zelensky called on his allies to lift all restrictions they still impose on Ukraine in the use of long-range weapons sent to it within the Russian Federation.
“There can be no restrictions on [ações] Ukraine’s long-range attacks when terrorists have no such restrictions,” Zelensky said.
The Russian Defense Ministry has confirmed that it carried out a “massive attack” on military airfields and energy facilities.
