Until recently, being vegetarian and eating at McDonald’s was not a winning combo… Indeed, apart from the fries, the salad and the egg muffin as well as the goat’s cheese wrap (for those who eat eggs and cheese), the selection remained quite limited. Although the brand had launched the Grand Veggie a few years ago with a breaded vegetable pancake, it is now no longer available. So what to eat?
And although vegans and vegetarians can rest assured, from this Tuesday, October 8, they will now be able to enjoy nuggets made from vegetable proteins. A first in France which is a pleasure. We’ll tell you more about this new feature.
Vegan alternatives continue to progress and are now reaching major brands. After recently discovering vegan Nutella, today it is the McDonald’s brand which is following the movement by offering a new meat-free alternative to one of its flagship products. Indeed, if Sweden has no less than 4 vegetarian burgers and Italy has its tomato/mozzarella panzerotti, France only had, until not so long ago, only a limited offer for people who do not eat vegetarian burgers. meat.
Faced with ever-increasing demand, this fast food giant has decided to change things. Thus, from this Tuesday, October 8, all McDonald’s restaurants in France, i.e. 1,562 addresses, will offer vegan nuggets, called Veggie McPlants. They will be marketed permanently, a first in France.
This innovation was developed by Beyond Meat. Customers will be able to discover these nuggets made from wheat and pea proteins, coated with a crispy breading which is a mixture of wheat and corn flour, lightly salted with notes of pepper and celery.
Veggie McPlants will be on the menu as well as in the following different menus: Best Of, Maxi Best Of and Happy Meal. They will be sold at the same price as “chicken McNuggets” which can range from 3.50 to 4.50 euros for a box of 4.
Our colleagues from Figaro explain that before the launch of this new product in France, a test was carried out on a panel of customers. Verdict? “The response was unanimous, there was real enthusiasm from our consumers who found a strong resemblance to the iconic nugget. We are quite confident about the success of the product.”welcomes Jean-Guillaume Bertola, the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of McDonald’s France.
These vegan nuggets have already been available in Germany since 2023 where the launch has been a real success. So will it be the same for France?
