Emotional family reunion with Didier Martínez: “His whole body is motionless”

A Colombian family experienced an emotional reunion in the United States. After an anguishing wait, the relatives of Didier Martínez, the young man from Santander who fell from the ninth floor, obtained a humanitarian visa to visit him in his place of recovery.

Lady and Didier Martínez, who had been waiting for minutes to meet, hugged each other in a Miami clinic, where the 28-year-old accidentally fell from the ninth floor while on vacation.

“It was quite hard. The first impression when I saw him was shocking because his entire body suffered multiple fractures. His entire body is immobile, his spine, his arms, his legs, his hips,” said Lady Martínez, a relative of the patient in the United States.

As soon as his family received the call announcing Didier’s state of health, they began the campaign to obtain humanitarian aid that would allow them to travel to see him.

“On Friday they gave me the document, On Saturday I immediately traveled to Miami and thank God I am here with him,” Martínez said.

The medical report of the young man from Santander shows that six surgeries have been performed on all his extremities and that the treatment continues.

“He remains sedated for a long time to keep his body still and endure the pain. They keep him on medication. When he wakes up he already exchanges words with me, he already speaks and his hands are already moving,” said the young Colombian’s sister.

Didier is an engineering student in Bucaramanga and had already bought his return ticket to graduate from university in December of this year.

In an interview with Noticias Caracol en vivo, Lady Martínez, sister of Didier Martínez, commented that, on Monday, September 23, 2024, her brother fell from the ninth floor of the building where he was staying during a vacation in the United States.

“He is in quite poor health. He has multiple fractures in his body, perforations in his lungs, his spine is quite affected, his legs, his arms. What suffered the most was his body, because thank God his brain is fine,” Lady explained.

A palm tree that was on the outskirts of the building would have been the one that cushioned the fall of the young man, who, according to his sister, was alone at the time of the accident. However, the severity of his injuries meant that he had to be induced into a coma.
