After the devastating impact of the DANA meteorological phenomenon in Valencia, Spainwhich has left a number of floods and severe damage, the Colombian Government has deployed an aid plan to support its compatriots in the region.
The Foreign Ministry has reported, so far, one Colombian deceased and four missing, while the Colombian Consulate in Valencia has mobilized efforts to deliver humanitarian assistance necessary to more than 600 affected Colombians, many of whom reside in areas that are difficult to access due to the ravages of the natural disaster.
The Consulate has set up emergency contact lines to provide information and assistance to affected Colombians. Among distribution efforts, Nearly 300 liters of water have been delivered to Alfafar, one of the most impacted towns. In the coming days, the Consulate will continue to visit various affected towns, such as Chiva, Sedaví, Buñol, and Catarroja, bringing groceries, drinking water, and other essential items to approximately 100 Colombian families in the region.
Given the magnitude of the emergency, The Second Commission of the House of Representatives, in charge of international affairs, has sent a formal letter to the Presidency of the Republic and the Ministry of Finance to request the allocation of additional resources. This financing is important to expand the assistance provided to Colombians in Valencia, as well as to guarantee a more comprehensive response to the crisis generated by the DANA phenomenon.
