At least ten people lost their lives this Saturday, December 21, 2024, when a passenger bus fell down a ravine on a road in the province of Lorestan, in western Iran.

“The bus that left Andimeshk (Khuzestan province) towards Poldokhtar (Lorestan) left the road and fell into a ravine, which unfortunately left at least 10 people dead.”announced the executive director of the Red Crescent of Lorestan province, Mohammad Ghadami, reported the Tasnim agency.

How many injured does this traffic accident in Iran leave?

The official did not give details about the number of people injured in the accident or their state of health. Ghadami said four rescue teams were sent to the scene of the incident immediately after it was reported at 12:39 local time (9:10 GMT) this Saturday.

Traffic accidents are very common in Iran, where the road mortality rate is one of the highest in the world, with an average of 20,000 deaths per year.

Many road accidents are due to the poor condition of vehicles and poor compliance with traffic rules by drivers.

In August 2024, at least 28 Pakistani pilgrims died when the bus they were traveling in overturned in central Iran, in an accident caused by brake failure.

Iranian authorities ask for greater caution on the roads and to comply with the proper controls and checks on private and personal vehicles, in order to prevent the numbers of traffic accidents and fatalities from continuing to grow.
