The American president Donald Trump signed a decree on Monday ordering the suspension for 75 days of the application of the law that prohibits the short video platform TikTok in the country.
This law approved by Congress in 2024 and which came into force on Sunday requires the parent company of the social network to sell it on pain of banning it in the United States.

Trump had promised to act quickly to save TikTok from the law that was overwhelmingly passed by Congress and signed by the president. Joe Biden last year.
“I guess I have a strong point for TikTok which I didn’t originally have, but I joined TikTok and won over the young people,” Trump said as he signed the order, crediting the app for providing him with the youth vote in his election.
The TikTok ban law was passed over concerns that the Chinese government could exploit the app to spy on Americans or covertly influence American public opinion through data collection and content manipulation.
TikTok had shut down in the United States on Saturday night as the deadline passed, leaving millions of distraught users locked out of the app.
Trump promised to issue an executive order as soon as he took office to delay the ban and allow time to “come to a deal.”
TikTok restored service in USA on Sunday and credited Trump for making the repeal possible, although the outgoing Biden administration had previously said it would not enforce any ban.

Under the order, the attorney general must issue guidance to implement the pause and send letters to service providers confirming that they will not face liability for continuing to host or update TikTok during this period.
This clarification was crucial for companies like Apple y Googlewhich would otherwise be forced to remove TikTok from their app stores and block updates, facing fines of up to $5,000 per user if the app is accessed.
Oracle, which hosts TikTok’s US servers, is also legally required to enforce the ban.
The 75-day pause is intended to give the new administration time to “pursue a resolution that protects national security while saving a platform used by 170 million Americans,” according to the order.
