When you use your dishwasher, you certainly have the impression of saving time while protecting the planet. However, if you choose a particular program, it is precisely the opposite that occurs. Discover which it is and what are the real consequences.
Like many French people, you may have been seduced by the āfast cycleā function of your dishwasher … and that’s where there is a wolf. Indeed, unlike standard or intensive cycles, the rapid program operates at lower temperatures, generally around 45 to 55 Ā° C. It is therefore less effective in disloding fats, food residues and stubborn dirt. Result: your dishes tends to come out with unpleasant stains or odors and you should disable it by hand.
Another inconvenience: energy consumption. You might think that a short cycle consumes less water and electricity, but it is not! The rapid program compensates for its reduced time using higher water pressure, which can paradoxically increase consumption.
Last point that we do not think of: fast cycles are seeking more the mechanical components of your dishwasher. The pump and water jets work more intense to compensate for the shortened duration. In the long term, this can cause premature wear of the device and increase the risk of breakdowns.
If you want to be sure that your dishes are perfectly clean while being careful not to damage your dishwasher, here are some tips.
First, opt for the eco program. Although longer, this cycle consumes less water and electricity. It works at lower temperatures but takes the time required for optimal cleaning. So it’s win-win!
Then use the intensive program in case of very dirty dishes or for stoves, pots or other encrusted dishes. It operates at a higher temperature, generally around 70 Ā° C, which is very effective in eliminating the most stubborn residues.
Finally, regularly maintain your dishwasher so that it lasts longer and is more efficient. To do this, regularly clean the filters and sprinkling arms, and perform a cleaning cycle with a product descaling at least once a month to avoid the accumulation of deposits.
