“A China and Russia, as great world powers, have a special responsibility in maintaining global strategic stability and world progress”, said Wang, quoted by the Efe agency, at the beginning of his meeting in Moscow with Lavrov, while highlighting the positive dynamics of bilateral relations, which are developed “in all areas”.
“China and Russia pursue independent foreign policies. Our cooperation is not directed against anyone and is not influenced by other countries,” said Wang, who welcomed the constant contacts between the two countries in times of “international and regional turmoil.”
Lavrov, in turn, agreed that the world is now going through “tectonic shifts” and recalled that during their meeting last March in Moscow, the leaders of both countries, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, marked “the direction of the future deepening of the strategic partnership” between Moscow and Beijing.
“I want to highlight the importance of Russian-Chinese cooperation in ensuring justice in world affairs and the balance of interests in the processes carried out in different areas,” said the head of Russian diplomacy.
Likewise, he trusted in the continuation of the current level of interaction between both powers at a bilateral level and within the scope of their participation in different forums.
Russian diplomacy spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced the Chinese minister’s trip last week and said the two leaders would have “a detailed exchange of views on the issue of the conflict in Ukraine, as well as stability and security in the region of Asia Pacific”.
Wang’s arrival in Moscow follows his meeting with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in Malta, which the White House described as “sincere and constructive”.
According to the White House, Sullivan stressed to Wang “the importance of maintaining stability in the Taiwan Strait”, and both committed to holding “high-level meetings” between the United States and China in the coming months.
