“VWe want to intensify attacks with the aim of minimizing the danger to our forces in the next phases of the war. We will increase attacks from today”, said spokesman Daniel Hagari when asked about a possible ground invasion of Gaza.
Speaking to journalists, the Israeli Army spokesman said that its soldiers are trying to create “ideal conditions” in advance.
Hagari repeated his appeal to Gaza residents to head south for safety.
This announcement comes on the day that the border crossing between Egypt and Gaza was opened, and then closed, to allow trucks with humanitarian aid to pass through.
Only 20 trucks were authorized to enter, a quantity that humanitarian organizations considered insufficient to face an unprecedented crisis.
More than 200 trucks with more than three thousand tons of humanitarian aid have been waiting for days to pass.
It is estimated that more than 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza, half of whom are refugees, are rationing food and drinking unsafe water.
The Islamist group Hamas launched a surprise attack on southern Israel on October 7 with the launch of thousands of rockets and the incursion of armed militiamen, taking two hundred hostages.
In response, Israel declared war on Hamas, a movement that has controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007 and which is classified as terrorist by the European Union and the United States, bombing several of the group’s infrastructures in the Gaza Strip and imposing a total siege on the territory with cuts of supply of water, fuel and electricity.
The conflict has already caused thousands of deaths and injuries, among military personnel and civilians, in both territories.
