UOne in five Americans believes that singer Taylor Swift is a Pentagon agent involved in a scheme to ensure that United States President Joe Biden wins the November 5 election.
Although only 46% of the 902 Americans surveyed were aware of the conspiracy theory that hovers over the pop star, one in five (18%) believes that the thesis raised by Fox News presenter Jesse Watters is true, according to the results of a study on the artist’s impact on suffrage, released on Wednesday by Monmouth University.
However, 71% of those contacted stated that they identify with the Republican Party, while 83% indicated that they will probably support former president Donald Trump in the elections. What’s more: 73% of respondents who were in favor of the veracity of the conspiracy theory also believe that the result of the 2020 vote was fraudulent.
Last month, Watters suggested that the singer was an asset of the United States Department of Defense involved in psychological warfare, taking into account the campaigns by Kansas City Chiefs forward – and his boyfriend – Travis Kelce for Pfizer, one of the pharmaceutical companies responsible for the vaccine against Covid-19and the success of The Eras Tour, which boosted local economies.
“The supposed conspiracy theory about Taylor Swift’s psychological operation has legs among a fair number of Trump supporters. Many who had not heard about the topic before we interviewed them accept the idea as credible. Welcome to the 2024 elections,” said the director of the Monmouth University Statistics Institute, Patrick Murray, quoted in a statement from the entity.
Despite everything, two thirds (68%) of Americans considered it positive that Taylor Swift encourages her fans to vote in the next election. It should be noted, however, that Republicans showed a less favorable stance (42%), when compared to Democrats (88%) and independents (17%).
Remember that, in 2020, the singer positioned herself alongside the current president of the United States, who would win against Donald Trump. Although the artist has not yet commented on the 2024 presidential elections, the mogul’s allies have already declared “war” on the pop star, even believing that her relationship with Travis Kelce will once again give Biden victory.
Even before the Super Bowl final, in which the attacker’s team emerged victorious, the Republican candidate tried to pressure Taylor Swift to stand by his side, arguing that it would be “disloyal” if she didn’t do so.
“I signed and was responsible for the Music Modernization Act (MMA) for Taylor Swift and all other artists. Joe Biden has done nothing for Taylor and never will. There is no way she can support the dishonest Joe Biden, the worst and most corrupt president in the history of our country, and be disloyal to the man who made her so much money. Plus, I like her boyfriend, Travis, even though he’s liberal and probably can’t stand me!” the mogul wrote on his social media site, Truth Social.
It should also be noted that Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh devalued Watters’ thesis, which she considered to be just a “conspiracy theory”.
“Let’s get rid of it”, he pointed out, in reference to the theme ‘Shake It Off’.
White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre invoked the Hatch Act, which prohibits public officials from engaging in some political activities, when refusing to answer whether Biden would appear with Swift soon.
“I’m not going to get into the president’s agenda from here, as far as the 2024 elections are concerned,” he said.
It should be noted that Taylor Swift was almost completely apolitical until 2018, when she supported two Democrats in Tennessee, where she lived as a teenager.
In the Netflix documentary ‘Miss Americana’, which premiered in 2020, the artist regretted not speaking out against Trump during the 2016 elections.
