Capon stuffed with chestnuts, foie gras, chocolate log, champagne, New Year’s Eves are often too copious, fatty and saturated with sugar. In the long run, these repeated excesses of food harm our digestive system! Rest assured, there are solutions to help your body digest better. On his Instagram account “Dr Good Food“, nutritionist Nathalie Majcher shared 5 ideas for infusions to sip after the holidays to feel lighter!
Peppermint is well known for stimulating digestion and is also an excellent antispasmodic. Allow around 2 g of peppermint per cup, add simmering water and let it infuse for 2 to 3 minutes.
This rhizome, which is found in many Asian dishes (and particularly in soups or curries), is highly recommended. It soothes stomach heaviness, stimulates digestion and reduces nausea. Ginger is also well known to pregnant women who use it to soothe nausea during early pregnancy. It is also recommended to combat travel sickness. For 50 cl of water, provide around 2.5 g of fresh ginger which you will peel and slice before plunging into boiling water. Leave to simmer gently for 15 minutes then infuse covered for a few more minutes. Sweetened with honey, this infusion will help your stomach get back on its feet!
Anise (or star anise) is known to stimulate the secretion of digestive enzymes and relieve intestinal gas. You can crush around 2 g of anise seeds in a mortar and infuse them in a cup of simmering water, with a little sugar or honey.
If we often consume chamomile infusion in the evening, to help fall asleep, know that it is also excellent for the digestive system: it relieves stomach cramps and reduces gastric irritation. Don’t hesitate to drink a small cup before going to bed!
In addition to providing an irresistible aniseed taste, this plant helps reduce intestinal bloating and combats digestive discomfort. Simply grind 2-3g of fennel seeds and steep them in 1 cup of boiling water. Please note that depending on your tastes, you can also mix these different ingredients (ginger and mint for example, or fennel and anise).
