Ingredients

  • 500 grams of ground beef
  • 300 grams of tomato pulp
  • 1 cabbage
  • 2 peeled tomatoes, grated
  • 3 sliced ​​tomatoes
  • 2 grated onions
  • 5 cloves of minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons of powdered beef broth
  • Green smell to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Mint to taste
  • Salt to taste

Preparation Mode

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
  2. Using a knife, remove the center of the cabbage.
  3. Place the whole cabbage in the pot with the cavity down.
  4. Let it cook for approximately 15 minutes.
  5. As the leaves cook, carefully remove them with a fork.
  6. Reserve the cooking water.
  7. Line a large pan with cabbage leaves and tomato slices.
  8. Place the cigars side by side, sprinkle with mint and parsley.
  9. Top with cabbage leaves and olive oil to taste.
  10. Add the reserved cooking water, enough to cook the parcels.
  11. Cook for approximately 20 minutes or until the water dries up.
  12. Serve with lemon wedges.

2nd Version

Ingredients

  • 300 grams of ground beef
  • 1 cup (tea) of raw rice
  • 2 cups (tea) of warm water
  • Syrian pepper to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • 8 boiled cabbage leaves
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • ½ cup (tea) of ready tomato sauce
  • 4 tablespoons chopped mint leaves
  • 1 and ½ cups (tea) of boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil
  • Salt to taste

Preparation Mode

  1. Wash the rice and drain.
  2. Soak the rice in warm water for 1 hour.
  3. Drain and place the beans in a bowl.
  4. Add the meat, onion, mint, pepper and salt.
  5. Mix well and then divide into 16 portions.
  6. Open the cabbage leaves, remove the central stalk, discarding it, and cut the leaf in half.
  7. With the meat mixture, make small croquettes and place them on the cabbage leaves.
  8. Roll it up, closing the ends so that the filling doesn’t escape.
  9. Place them side by side in a large pot.
  10. Add the boiling water, sugar, sauce and salt.
  11. Drizzle with olive oil.
  12. Cover everything with a plate and cover the pan.
  13. Bring to a boil over high heat.
  14. Reduce the heat and cook for approximately 20 minutes or until the cabbage is cooked and tender.
  15. Distribute the cigars on a platter, drizzle with the sauce and serve immediately.

Mom’s Tips

The plate must be suitable for withstanding the heat of cooking and serves to keep the packages from falling open.
