CFifteen people were also injured, two of them seriously, in the attack in the Nabatieh sector of southern Lebanon, the ministry added.

For its part, the Israeli army declared having struck “during the night, a Hezbollah weapons warehouse” in the Nabatieh region, as well as “military structures” of the Lebanese Shiite movement in the Hanine and Marun El Ras regions, near the border between the two countries.

Pro-Iranian Hezbollah has opened a front against Israel in the border area in support of its Palestinian ally Hamas, which has been waging a war with Israel in Gaza since October 7. Since then, there have been almost daily exchanges of fire between the Lebanese group and the Israeli army.

The violence intensified with the death in late July of a Hezbollah military chief, killed in an Israeli strike in Beirut, on the eve of the assassination in Tehran of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh, in an attack that Iran and its allies blamed on Israel.

Iran and Hezbollah have threatened Israel with reprisals.

More than 10 months of violence have left at least 579 people dead in Lebanon, most of them Hezbollah fighters but also 121 civilians, according to a tally by the Agence France-Presse news agency.

In Israel and the occupied Golan Heights, 22 soldiers and 26 civilians were killed by rocket and missile fire from Lebanon, Israeli officials said.
