VSeveral people close to President Biden said Thursday they believe he has begun to accept the idea that he may not be able to win in November and may even accept having to drop out of the race.

The news was reported by the New York Times, which added that it would not be a surprise if Biden made an announcement soon supporting Vice President Kamala Harris as his replacement.

The report is based on interviews with four people close to the president, all of whom described the situation as extremely delicate and spoke on condition of anonymity to avoid offending Biden. One of the Times’ sources even said that “reality is setting in.”

Joe Biden’s health and age had already been called into question, but recently there have been several episodes that are leaving the current US president feeling fragile in the eyes of voters.

Many Democrats also began to express concern after the first debate with Trump, when Biden appeared less energetic than his birthday. Doubts have set in, and although many have shown their support for Biden, there is no consensus on whether he is fit for office.

Earlier this Thursday, his predecessor, Barack Obama, shared the same concern with his inner circle of supporters. The former US president considered that Joe Biden’s chances of being re-elected to the White House had diminished, having shared with close Democratic allies that Biden should evaluate the viability of his re-election.
