A Bolivian prosecutor reported this Monday that she appeared a “formal accusation” against former President Evo Morales (2006-2019) for the “aggravated crime of human trafficking” and an immigration alert was requested.

The departmental prosecutor of Tarija Sandra Gutiérrez indicated that today “a formal accusation was filed against Mr. Evo Morales Aima and Mrs. Idelsa Pozo Saavedra (mother of the alleged victim) for the crime of aggravated human trafficking” and that they are waiting “that the precautionary judge set the date and time for the hearing on precautionary measures to take place.”

According to the complaint, Morales would have committed the crimes of human trafficking and statutory rape with a minor with whom he supposedly had a child. In addition, the process indicates that the parents of the alleged victim “profited” from her by handing her over to the former president in exchange for “favors.”

The victim allegedly belonged to a youth group created by the former president during his Presidency, called ‘Generation Evo’.

The prosecutor also stated that an immigration alert was requested for Morales, as well as for Pozo.

An arrest warrant against Morales had already been issued on October 16 and could not be executed for various reasons.as stated in “many reports” that he has received from the Police in which it is reported that it has not been possible to find his whereabouts.

“One of the reports indicates that intelligence police proceeded to search for Morales in (the town) of Villa 14 de Septiembre, in Chapare, because he indicated the place (his) real home, but during the investigation it was found that he was not there. “explained the prosecutor.

Besides, The police reported that they tried to search other homes, and after “surveillance work”, Morales “was not living in those places.”.

When the arrest warrant was issued for Morales, his followers carried out strong road blockades for 24 days, especially in the center of the country, to defend him, one of the reasons why the Police could not enter Chapare, the former president’s political and union stronghold. , mentioned the prosecutor.

And other reasons why the arrest warrant was not executed was to protect the security agents, because during the road blockade some of them were brutally beaten and injured.

“Despite the efforts carried out within the framework of compliance with the arrest warrant, the execution against Evo Morales faces significant technical and operational risks,” concludes a Police report, read by the prosecutor.

“There is nothing political here, we are protecting the rights of a person who has been violated, with the approval of his parents. We are going to expose all these situations (before the judge),” the prosecutor said.

Gutiérrez denounced on October 3 that the then Attorney General of Bolivia, Juan Lanchipa, removed her from her position and stopped an arrest warrant against Morales that she had issued.

Days later Gutiérrez was reinstated in the Prosecutor’s Office and Lanchipa resigned as attorney general.

Since October, Morales has not left Chapare, and has stated that he is protected at all times by at least “500 people.”.

On the other hand, in Argentina a case was opened against Morales for the “alleged commission of crimes of human trafficking and sexual abuse”, during his stay in that country in 2019 when he was welcomed with refugee status by the then president, Alberto Fernández (2019-2023).
