For the French, the aperitif is an almost sacred moment. It is not uncommon to open a small beer to accompany a good board of cheese and charcuterie. So, we generally always find one or two beers in the fridge or in the cupboard. The problem that may arise? The expiration date has passed. But then what to do? We answer the question in this article.

It’s on social networks that the wine merchants of Comptoir des Vignes de Châteaurenard shared their advice regarding beers and expiration dates. If these are indicated on the bottles, it is in reality mandatory: “The expiry dates on beer are just an indication because the law stipulates that below ten degrees, we are obliged to put an expiry date on any food or drink” specifies one of the experts.

In reality, a beer does not expire and no you cannot get sick from it.

The only downside that may be is that after a certain time, “especially with lager beers”, it is to feel their aromas less since they can lose a little taste, nothing more.

Like wine, some beers, however, improve over time. Indeed, varieties like Bernaduste, Trappistes, Ourval and other Abbey beers can be kept for a very long time and this is not a problem, on the contrary: “They can be kept for between 3 and 5 years. They will thus improve.” But to preserve their flavor, be careful to store them well: “you must keep them at the right temperature, in a fairly cool room, a dark room and above all always upright”.
