China revealed in Beijing the prototype of the CR450 high-speed train, designed to operate at 400 kilometers per hour. The model, developed by the China State Railway Group (CRRC), reached 450 km/h in tests, consolidating the country’s leadership in railway technology.

According to lists prepared by specialized media such as Railway Technology, this speed exceeds the current commercial speed record for traditional trains by 50 km/h, established by the CR Fuxing and the CR Harmonyalso from the Asian giant.

According to the Chinese press, collecting data from CRRC Corporation Limited (CRRC), the main train manufacturer in that country, there are two CR450 models presented: the CR450AF and the CR450BF, both with a formation of eight cars, four with engines and four without motor.

What is the fastest train?

Although it aims to be the fastest train in the world, magnetic levitation trains, such as the Shanghai Maglevcontinue to be faster, reaching up to 501 km/h.

Development of the CR450 began in 2018 as part of a technological innovation project.

In 2021, the first initiatives of the program were launched, followed by trials on lines such as Mianchi-Mengzi and Fuzhou-Xiamen between 2022 and 2023.

The prototype presented this year integrates advanced smart manufacturing and stricter quality controls, according to CRRC. Its innovations include a 22% reduction in operating resistance and a lighter design, with a total weight reduced by 10%.

In addition, the train offers greater comfort for passengers, with larger and quieter cabins, personalized services and intelligent monitoring and control systems.

The CR450 is the successor to the CR Fuxingthe first high-speed train fully developed in China without foreign technology. There is still no probable date for the entry into operation of this vehicle, since, according to the China State Railway Group, more tests are needed to guarantee compliance with all the standards necessary for it to operate commercially.
