Colombia will not “interfere in Venezuela’s internal affairs”: Foreign Minister Murillo

Colombian Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo has spoken out again about the situation in Venezuela following the elections that, according to the CNE, gave Nicolás Maduro the victory, while the opposition maintains that Edmundo González won the presidency with a wide margin of votes. Several countries have recognized the anti-Chavez leader as the new president, but Gustavo Petro’s government has been cautious so far.

“We remain in contact with all official and political sectors in Venezuela.in a joint and constructive diplomatic effort between Colombia, Brazil and Mexico; Always respecting the sovereignty of the neighboring country, non-interference in its internal affairs and respect for human rights.“, said the Foreign Minister, after his dialogue with the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.

“We reiterate our position regarding the role of the OAS and value the interest of the United States in the constructive role played by this group of countries.“, he added.

Murillo said she discussed other issues with Blinken, “with whom we highlighted the good atmosphere that exists in our relationship with the U.S. and Colombia’s plans to establish channels of collaboration with the People and Government of Haiti.”
