The Algarve region, in southern Portugal, will be on orange alert starting this Thursday afternoon due to the approach of DANA which caused major flooding in Spain, although it is not expected to have such a serious impact in the Portuguese country.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) placed the Algarve on orange alert between 18:00 GMT today and 12:00 tomorrow, Friday. For Friday, “downpours are expected, sometimes heavy and accompanied by storms, especially in the central and southern regions,” he said in a statement.
In addition, six other Portuguese districts, along with the Azores archipelago, are under a yellow warning this Thursday due to rain, some of them bordering Spain.
