Bashar al Assad, deposed president of Syria, received this Sunday, December 8 asylum in Russia, as reported by a Kremlin source to the TASS agency.
“Syria’s president, Assad, He arrived with his family in Moscow. Russia, based on humanitarian criteria, he offered him asylum,” a Kremlin source told the TASS agency.
He added that “Russia has always advocated the search for a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis.”

According to the Kremlin representative, “Russian officials are in contact with representatives of the Syrian armed opposition, whose leaders guaranteed the security of Russian military bases and diplomatic institutions in Syrian territory”.
He concluded by expressing his hope for the continuation of the political dialogue in the interest of the Syrian people and the development of bilateral relations between Russia and Syria.
