Donald Trump did not end the Ukrainian war in 24 hours as he promised during the campaign: he threatened Russia

The war in Ukraine, which broke out in February 2022 with the Russian invasion, did not merit any mention during Trump’s inauguration ceremonies on Monday.

According to local media, the US president intends to hold a call with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, although the details have not yet been revealed.

The New York magnate was very critical of the strategy of his predecessor, Joe Biden, of sending weapons to Ukraine to try to repel Russian aggression.

The new Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, anticipated that the policy of the new Government will be to seek a truce agreement for this conflict.

Rubio called on Ukraine and Russia to make “concessions” and admitted that “it is not realistic” to want to restore the pre-invasion borders.

The threat to Russia

Trump, meanwhile, threatened this Tuesday to impose more sanctions on Russia if Russian President Vladimir Putin refuses to negotiate a ceasefire with Ukraine.

At a press conference at the White House, a journalist asked Trump if he would take action if Putin did not agree to talk. “It’s likely,” the president responded.

Trump added that he is reconsidering sending weapons to Ukraine and that he plans to speak “very soon” with both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Putin. “We’ll see how everything happens,” he said.

In the appearance, Trump reiterated his criticism of the strategy of his predecessor, Joe Biden, of sending a large amount of weapons to Ukraine to try to repel Russian aggression, and once again considered that the European Union “should pay much more”, since It is closer to Ukraine, while the United States has an “ocean” between it.

During the election campaign, Trump promised that he would end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours, although he never detailed how he would achieve it. This Tuesday, that deadline was met without progress since he assumed power at noon on Monday.
