O Former US President Donald Trump has chosen Ohio Senator JD Vance as his vice presidential candidate, he announced on the social network Truth Social on Monday.
“After much deliberation and thought, and considering the enormous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best prepared to assume the office of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the great state of Ohio,” Trump’s post read.
According to the former US President, “JD served his country honorably in the Marines, graduated from Ohio State University in two years, and graduated from Yale Law School.”
Trump also recalled the senator’s “successful business career” and promised that Vance would work for the benefit of American “workers and farmers.”
“As Vice President, JD will continue to fight for our Constitution, support our troops, and do everything in his power to help me Make America Great Again. Congratulations to Senator JD Vance,” he concluded.
The announcement was made during the Republican National Convention, which kicked off today in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and where Donald Trump has also been confirmed as the Republican candidate for the US presidential election.
Donald Trump has thus put an end to a mystery that had lasted for months, naming the 39-year-old senator as his “number two” for the presidential race.
Trump turned on his first vice president, Mike Pence, after the former Indiana governor rejected the tycoon’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results based on false theories after he was defeated by Joe Biden, the current head of state.
It is worth remembering that the Republican Party National Convention takes place between this Monday and Thursday, in the city of Milwaukee, in the United States, after the incident that, on Saturday, ended with Donald Trump injured in an ear and the death of two people – the shooter, aged 20, and a participant who was shot dead while protecting his family.
Despite the attack, the former president’s campaign and members of the Republican National Committee said in a joint statement that Trump will continue to attend the convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
