The new president of USADonald Trump announced this Monday that he will end diversity programs and gender identity policies, and said in his inauguration speech that the government will only recognize “two genders: male and female.”

“As of today, United States government policy is that there are only two genders: male and female,” Trump said in the Capitol after becoming the 47th president of his country.

“I will also end the government’s policy of trying to engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life,” said the president, who is rushing to fulfill his electoral promises to dismantle “woke” culture.

Shortly before the inauguration, an incoming administration official had told the press that Trump would sign a series of executive orders to end federal diversity programs and determine the recognition of only two genders.

In practice, from now on official documents will be required to “reflect gender accurately,” the official said, without specifying whether that meant the gender assigned at birth.

This will end the official policy that recognized a third gender, determined by an X, as is done on passports, for example.

“The federal government will no longer promote gender ideology,” the official said.

The government representative did not specify any clear policy on gender transition, but stated that genders assigned at birth cannot be changed.

“These are sexes that are not changeable, and are based on a fundamental and incontrovertible reality,” he said.

The government will also take immediate steps to cut programs that try to correct historical inequalities, but that Trump has insisted that they harm white people, especially men.

“The Treasury Department – this was a while ago – included diversity training that said that all white people, regardless of how diverse they are, contribute to racism. So we’re going to end this type of funding, we’re going to end end these (diversity) programs,” the official said.

It is very likely that his new policies will be questioned in court.

During the campaign, Trump attacked the diversity policiesequity and inclusion in the federal government and in the business world, claiming that they discriminate against whites, especially men.

He also demonized any effort to recognize gender diversity, attacking transgender people, particularly transgender women in sports and treatments to support gender transition in minors.

Fear among those affected

Before the election, Trump planned to “ask Congress to pass a bill stating that the only genders recognized by the US government are male and female, and that they are assigned at birth,” his political platform said.

He had also promised to ban gender-affirming treatments for minors and take legal action against any doctor or educator who carried out or allowed the practice.

Many in the queer community were alarmed by Trump’s election following a campaign in which the Republican brought attacks against trans people and their rights to the fore.

The National Help Center LGBT has received about 2,000 calls a day since the election results, instead of the usual 300, according to its director Aaron Almanza.

Anti-trans rhetoric was a mainstay of Trump’s campaign rallies, drawing loud cheers from crowds enraged by the Republican’s false claims that children were being forced to undergo gender reassignment, among other claims.
