The chaos in Ecuador began after the escape from prison of the leader of Los Choneros, José Adolfo Macías, also known as ‘Fito’. The escape led the government to declare a state of emergency and the president to declare that Ecuador is experiencing an “internal armed conflict”.

The international community has shown its support for the president and people of Ecuador, condemning criminal acts and offering help.
