The opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutiaexiled in Spain, asked all Venezuelans this Tuesday, a few hours into the new year, to continue “together with the commitment to enforce that mandate in 2025”, in reference to the presidential elections last July.

However, the official result granted victory for a new term to the current president, Nicolas Maduroamid complaints of “massive fraud” by the opposition.
The text message is accompanied by a video in which his statements alternate with those of the opposition leader Maria Corina Machado.
González Urrutia, who was the electoral candidate of the main opposition bloc to Maduro, adds that this “should be the day of hug” in the streets of the country “among all Venezuelans without distinctions or vendettas, that day is the opportunity to leave behind the “words that promote hatred and division.”
According to the opponent, “it is the opportunity to move forward together, firmly and definitively, along the path of reunion and national unity.” And the text concludes: “Hugs and a lot of strength in this new year! See you on the streets of our beloved country.”

In the video, Machado recalls that there are “many Venezuelans who now have a family member in asylum, exile or as a political prisoner unjustly detained for working to make a better country.”
And González Urrutia, who was granted political asylum by the Spanish Government, then refers to “the desire for freedom, democracy and prosperity that the people of Venezuela expressed with absolute clarity in the presidential elections” of 2024.
Venezuela He needs each one to “fulfill his duty as mandated by the Constitution and the laws,” he adds.

And that “popular and sovereign mandate that Venezuelans” gave themselves on July 28 “must open the path of change for 2025,” according to Machado, “with the essential purpose of the definitive embrace between all Venezuelans.”
Finally, the opponent assures: “The time is very close to see us again on the streets of Venezuela to claim the victory of July 28. We have worked very hard during all these months building our plan.”
Furthermore, he adds, “we all have a role to play and a responsibility, those inside and outside of Venezuela, civilians, soldiers, officials, children, young people, adults. Everyone.”
“We will see you in the streets in January because you know: this is until the end,” he concludes.
