During his visit to Ecuador, González Urrutia will also meet with representatives of the Venezuelan community resident in the Andean country.

The Venezuelan opposition leader was in Washington this week to join the inauguration ceremonies of US President Donald Trump, where Noboa was also present, after a tour of several countries in the region with a view to seeking support. international.

González Urrutia began this tour after receiving asylum in Spain in September of last year when he found himself at risk of being detained by the Venezuelan authorities for not accepting the results presented by the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela, which gave victory to Maduro without the recognition of a large part of the international community.

The Noboa Government was one of the first countries to recognize Gonzalez Urrutia as winner of the elections held on July 28 and later declaring him as president-elect, as the requests for publication of the electoral records were not met.

The Venezuelan opposition assures that its candidate Gonzalez Urrutia won with a 70% votes the July elections. However, the electoral authority proclaimed Nicolás Maduro the winner with 52% of the votes, although it has not published the detailed count, as required by law.

In his statement, the Ecuadorian government expressed that “it reaffirms its commitment to democracy and the values ​​that support it, as well as its rejection of the dictatorship of “Nicolas Maduro”who two weeks ago was sworn in for a third straight six-year term.
