The egg coast is booming. Brunches have become more and more fashionable and eggs are one of the star foods of this meal. Scrambled, fried, boiled, in an omelet: difficult to make a choice. They are especially essential with inflation, becoming the cheapest animal protein on the market. Its consumption thus experienced a real peak, going from 229 eggs per year, or 9 more than in 2022.
Many people consume it every day. But for our health, how much should you eat per week? Here is the answer.
Professionals agree to praise the merits of eggs. As explained previously, Dr Corinne Chicheportiche-Ayache, nutritionist doctor in Paris, interviewed by Ouest Francepoints out that the egg is “a complete food with excellent value for money”. But that’s not all, the specialist also recognizes many health benefits: “In eggs, there are quite a few vitamins, zinc, a lot of good quality proteins which are found in the white, for a very low caloric intake. As for the yolk, it contains antioxidants and cholesterol in the necessary quantity per day for a person. Please note that the color of the shell or even the fact that the hen is raised outdoors or not are criteria that have no impact on the nutritional quality of the egg.
As you will have understood, it is therefore beneficial to consume it regularly. However, the question arises: exactly how much should you eat?
The nutritionist explains to our colleagues thatit is easily possible to consume eggs regularly : “We can eat five to six eggs a week without any problem”. Nevertheless, there are certain exceptions. This is the case, for example, for people with diabetes or people “suffering from uncontrolled hypercholesterolemia. You should therefore not exceed two to three eggs per week” she specifies. Note that in this count, the expert takes into account eggs which are part of preparations such as quiches or cakes.
