Last Holy Thursday, March 28, 2024, in Recife, Brazila fire partially consumed a building under construction. Flames engulfed much of the 20-story structure.
Firefighters evacuated neighboring residences and buildings and blocked traffic on nearby streets. as precautionary measures.
The Pernambuco Military Fire Department received the alert about the fire at around eight p.m., local time. A helicopter also helped contain the flames.
Constructora Carrilho is the one in charge of the work, but has not made any statements about it.
The mayor of Recife, João Campossaid on his X account (formerly Twitter) that he called the Operations Centers to monitor the effects caused by the fire.
“Our teams, including Civil Defense, are working to support firefighters in blocking access to the streets and areas near the site,” Campos indicated at the time of the emergency.
The preliminary investigation indicates that, although the incident was serious, no injuries were reported and that the fire could have been caused by a short circuit.
