O Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on the Telegram social network that Ukrainian air defenses had been activated and that a fire had been reported “between a residential building and a school building” in the Darnytsky district (southeast).

The Ukrainian Air Force also said on Telegram at 22:51 (19:51 in Lisbon) that the drones were heading towards the capital from the east.

Other drones were reported in the Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions, the same source said.

In Kyiv, through their official channels, authorities urged residents to move to the nearest bomb shelters.

Two air alerts sounded in the capital within minutes of each other, the last one ending around 22:25 (20:25 in Lisbon), according to an AFP correspondent.

On July 8, Russian bombings, which targeted Ukraine’s main pediatric hospital in Kyiv, left at least 43 dead and sparked a wave of international condemnation.

The country is regularly hit by deadly missile and drone attacks.

Kyiv, to protect itself, asks its Western allies to provide it with more anti-aircraft defense systems.

Ukraine has been relying on financial and weapons aid from Western allies since Russia invaded the country on February 24, 2022.

Kyiv’s allies have also imposed sanctions on key sectors of the Russian economy to try to reduce Moscow’s ability to finance the war effort in Ukraine.
