On September 6, Colin Gray was arrested and charged with several crimes related to the shooting at Apalachee High School in Winsor, Georgia. His son, Colt Gray, 14, was the perpetrator of the attack that resulted in the deaths of four people and the wounding of nine others. The fatal victims have been identified as students Christian Angulo and Mason Schermerhorn, both 14, and teachers Christina Irimie, 53, and Richard Aspinwall, 39.

What charges is Colin Gray facing?

At a press conference, Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Chris Hosey detailed the charges against Colin Gray: “Gray faces four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder and eight counts of child cruelty. These charges stem from him knowingly allowing his son Colt to take a gun that was later used in the shooting.”

Hosey also mentioned that Authorities are investigating threats made by other students at several schools in the state of Georgia.but did not provide additional details due to the open nature of the investigation.

The shooting was carried out with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, and Colt Gray had already been investigated by the FBI last year for threatening a school shooting over the internet. At the time, the FBI questioned both Colt and his father, who said the guns in his home were in his custody and not within reach of his son.

Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith expressed the community’s grief: “The community is heartbroken. A young person brought a gun into a school, committed an evil act, killed people and injured many others, not only physically but mentally.”

Teenager accused of shooting in Georgia to be tried as an adult

Colt Gray, who was arrested at the scene, faces four counts of murder and will be tried as an adult. The young man is expected to appear before a judge tomorrow, Friday, at 8:30 a.m. local time for the formal reading of the charges.

The charge against Colin Gray follows a precedent set by the 2021 Michigan school shooting, where the parents of the perpetrator, Ethan Crumbley, were convicted of involuntary manslaughter. This case has set a precedent for parental responsibility in school shooting situations.
