More than 20 people were injured on Saturday night when a Ferris wheel caught fire during a music festival near the eastern German city of Leipzig, police said.

Why did the Ferris wheel catch fire?
The fire, which broke out shortly before 9 p.m., was caused by the “ignition of two gondolas” of the attraction, a police spokesman told the AFP news agency.
The fire was brought under control by firefighters, But four people suffered burns and another was injured in a fall, the source added.
The remaining injured, “18 in total”, were affected by breathing smoke.
In addition to the riders, members of the police and firefighters were also injured during their work on the Ferris wheel, according to the spokesman.

“All the people were taken to nearby hospitals using rescue helicopters,” the spokesman added.
