Although the European Union and Egypt were relieved to see the release of four Israeli hostages kidnapped by Hamas in Gaza, they also condemned the death of more than 200 Palestinian civilians in the midst of that rescue. Iran joined the voices of rejection of this operation.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry denounced in a statement that these attacks represent “a flagrant violation of all provisions of international law,” as well as “all the values of humanity and human rights.”
“The massacred bodies of Palestinian citizens and children wrapped in dirt and blood are the result of the Zionist regime’s continued injection of American and European bombs and missiles by the Zionist regime’s arsenals,” denounced the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Naser Kananí, in a statement collected by the IRNA agency.
Testimonies of Palestinians
Abdul Salam Darwish, one of the Palestinians who suffered the bombing, said that “we were in the market, We were buying vegetables for lunch when we saw more than 20 planes overhead, we were not warned.”.
Dozens of people injured by the Israeli rescue operation in the Nuseirat refugee camp arrived at the hospitals in central Gaza.
“They (the Israelis) allowed women and children into the houses and then attacked them, or do we know which body belongs to whom? They’re in pieces, no one’s in one piece”declared a Palestinian citizen identified as Ahmad.
According to the authority in Gaza, controlled by Hamas, this attack left 210 dead and 400 injured.
“Israeli fighter jets began bombing us in all directions to cover up the withdrawal process“I just heard the shots and grenades falling, that’s all I know,” said Khalil Al-Tahrawi, a resident of Nuseirat.
The armed wing of the extremist group assured that other Israeli hostages died from the bombings.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas requested an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the repercussions of what he described as “a bloody massacre” in Nuseirat.
