“H“It is hoped that significant pressure from the United States and mediators on Hamas will make it possible to lift its opposition to the American proposal,” the office said in a statement, quoted by Agence France-Presse, adding that the proposal under discussion “includes elements acceptable to Israel.”

On Friday, Hamas said it rejected “new conditions” in this proposal, denouncing “American dictates.”

The Israeli negotiating team met with Benjamin Netanyahu upon his return from the Doha talks to discuss the latest proposal put forward by US President Joe Biden, which sought to bring closer positions between the Jewish state and Hamas.

However, the Islamist movement did not attend the meeting in the capital of Qatar to demand that what has already been agreed upon be adopted directly, in reference to the first proposal from the United States of America (USA) at the end of May.

This offer, “which is based on the May 27 framework” — the original that both Israel and Hamas are trying to claim they accept — “includes elements acceptable” to the Jewish state, the Israeli prime minister was assured.

“It is expected that the strong pressure from the United States and the mediators on Hamas will lead to the elimination of its opposition to the American proposal and allow progress in the negotiations,” concluded the statement from the prime minister’s office, also quoted by the Efe agency.

The content of this US proposal has not yet been revealed, although it will be discussed at meetings that the parties will hold in Cairo next week and it is not yet known whether Hamas will be present or absent, as in Doha.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is expected to arrive in Israel tonight to take part in diplomatic efforts to reach the deal.

Hamas continues to claim that the Doha treaty does not fulfill its original proposal and encourages Israeli demands with the complicity of the United States, according to the Islamic movement.

For a month, Hamas has been criticizing Israel for demanding military control of the Philadelphia corridor — the border between Gaza and Egypt — to prevent arms smuggling and the Nitzarim corridor — which separates the north and south of the Strip — to prevent the return of militants to the northern part of the Palestinian enclave.

On October 7 last year, Israel declared war on the Gaza Strip to “eradicate” Hamas, hours after the Islamist movement carried out an unprecedented attack on Israeli territory, killing 1,194 people, most of them civilians.

In power in Gaza since 2007 and classified as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union and Israel, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) also took 251 hostages that day, 111 of whom remain in captivity, while 41 have died in the meantime, according to the most recent report by the Israeli Army.

The war, which continues to threaten to spread to the entire Middle East region, has so far left at least 40,005 dead (almost 2% of the population) and 92,401 injured in the Gaza Strip, in addition to more than 10,000 missing, most of them civilians, presumably buried in the rubble, according to updated figures from local authorities.

Peace talks in Doha resumed on Thursday, as the death toll in the Gaza Strip from the Israeli offensive surpassed 40,000, most of them civilians, according to local authorities controlled by Hamas.
