NOn Friday, after 10 months of war, Israel agreed to resume negotiations on August 15, with a view to a ceasefire and the release of hostages held in Gaza by Hamas, in response to an appeal by American, Egyptian and Qatari mediators.

In its statement, Hamas “calls on the mediators to present a roadmap to implement what was proposed to Hamas and which it accepted on July 2, 2024.”

This plan is “based on the vision of the [Presidente norte-americano, Joe] Biden and UN Security Council resolutions,” Hamas said in the statement.

In late May, Biden unveiled a three-phase plan aimed at leading to “a lasting ceasefire and the release of all hostages” held in Gaza since October 7.

The mediators, Hamas demanded again today, must “force the occupier [israelita] to apply [este plano]instead of carrying out further negotiations or presenting new proposals that will provide cover for the occupation’s aggression.”

The Islamist movement cites in particular the Israeli attack that killed on Saturday, according to the Civil Defense in Gaza, 93 Palestinians, including women and children, in a school housing displaced people, provoking international protests.

The Israeli military claimed that the school was used by Hamas and Islamic Jihad (another armed Palestinian movement) to “carry out attacks” against its military and claimed to have eliminated “at least 19 terrorists”.

Israel vowed to destroy Hamas after the October 7 attack on its territory that killed 1,198 people, most of them civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures.

Of the 251 people kidnapped, 111 are still being held in Gaza, of whom 39 are dead, according to the Israeli army.

The Israeli retaliatory offensive in Gaza has left at least 39,790 people dead, according to figures from the Hamas-led Gaza government’s Health Ministry, which does not detail the number of civilians and combatants killed.
