UAn Israeli airstrike in Gaza City killed two Al Jazeera journalists, Ismail Al Ghoul and cameraman Rami Al Riffi, on Wednesday as they covered the death of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, the Qatari channel confirmed.

“Ismail was known for his professionalism and dedication, exposing the world to the atrocities committed in Gaza,” the channel said.

However, according to Israel, Ghoul, “as part of his role in the military wing of Hamas,” instructed other operatives on how to record operations and was actively involved in recording and publishing attacks on troops, both on October 7 and in the Gaza offensive, as propaganda.

“The Israel Defense Forces and Shin Bet have eliminated a Nukhba terrorist who participated in the October 2023 massacre and who was responsible for recording and publishing the attacks against troops,” a military statement said.

“Israeli forces are operating with the aim of eliminating the terrorists who participated in the October 7 massacre and will continue to do so,” he added.

Hamas’ top political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed in an attack attributed to Israel in Tehran two days ago, while the army confirmed today that the group’s military chief, Mohamed Deif, commander of the al-Qasam Brigades, was killed in an attack in the Gaza Strip 20 days ago.

Deif was considered – along with the Hamas chief in the enclave, Yahya Sinwar – to be the mastermind behind the October 7 attacks.
