According to the UN, successive mass evacuation orders have already displaced 90 percent of Gaza’s inhabitants, often repeatedly.
During the month of August alone, Israeli forces issued 13 orders that forced around 300,000 people to relocate.
The directives come in addition to evacuation orders issued on the 16th, when the Israeli army ordered the displacement of the population from the north of Khan Yunis and the east of Deir al-Balah (center).
The “humanitarian zone” established by Israel covers a narrow strip of 36 square kilometers between the al-Mawasi area in Khan Yunis and Deir al-Balah and, although it shelters civilians, it is not free from attack.
On July 13, airstrikes in the coastal area of ​​al-Mawasi killed more than 90 Palestinians and injured 300 others. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, controlled by the Palestinian Islamists Hamas, three days later, at least 17 more Palestinians were killed in another Israeli airstrike in the same area.
In total, some 30,000 people are crammed into every square kilometre of the Al Mawasi humanitarian zone due to Israeli evacuation orders, according to an estimate released on Wednesday by the United Nations agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA).
Before the war, there were 1,200 people per square kilometer.
The ongoing war between Israel and Hamas was triggered by an unprecedented attack by the Palestinian Islamist group on Israeli soil on October 7, 2023, which left around 1,200 people dead and more than two hundred people taken hostage, according to Israeli authorities.
Following the Hamas attack, Israel launched a large-scale offensive in the Gaza Strip, which has already caused more than 40,000 deaths, mostly civilians, and a humanitarian disaster, destabilizing the entire Middle East region.
