A The family of lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife, Neda Morvillo, mourned the death of the couple, who were traveling on the luxury sailboat that sank in the early hours of Monday, off the coast of Sicily, Italy.

“We are completely devastated by the deaths of Chris and Neda, and our hearts go out to all the families who have also been affected by this senseless tragedy,” read a statement quoted by The Telegraph on Thursday.

The family, who thanked the Italian coastguard and the law firm Clifford Chance “for their unwavering dedication”, stressed that “Neda and Chris lived their lives as devoted parents who always put their daughters and family first”.

“Chris and Neda were both highly respected for their professional achievements; Chris as a lawyer and Neda as a jewelry designer, but their true talents were as mother and father, son and daughter, brother, sister, uncle, aunt and dear friends to so many,” the statement added.

The family of British technology tycoon Mike Lynch’s lawyer has also asked for privacy in order to deal with this “huge loss”.

“Our primary focus continues to be Chris and Neda’s daughters and other loved ones,” the statement concluded.

It should be noted that the Italian coast guard confirmed, this Thursday, the identity of the bodies removed from inside the luxury yacht throughout the afternoon of Wednesday, having reported that only Mike Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter, Hannah Lynch, remains missing.

In addition to the Morvillo couple and the 59-year-old tycoon, the identified bodies belong to the president of Morgan Stanley International, Jonathan Bloomer, and his wife, Anne Elizabeth Judith Bloomer, whose family has also already reacted.

It should be remembered that the first of the bodies recovered, hours after the tragedy, was that of the ship’s cook, Recaldo Thomas, a Canadian born on the island of Antigua.

The search and recovery of the bodies are being hampered by the depth and position in which the yacht was found, but also by the limited autonomy of the divers, supported since Wednesday by an underwater robot.

On board the vessel, which sank due to a waterspout resulting from a violent storm, there were 12 passengers and 10 crew members, with the coastguard managing to rescue 15 people alive, including a one-year-old child.

According to several British media outlets, tycoon Mike Lynch, who was also known as the ‘British Bill Gates’, had organised the cruise to celebrate with his family, friends and lawyers his acquittal in June in a fraud case in the United States, related to the sale of his software company to Hewlett-Packard in 2011.

Local authorities have already opened an investigation to determine the exact causes of the accident, having questioned the captain of the Bayesian, James Catfield, 51, for around two hours, to understand how the yacht sank in just a few minutes.
