French health authorities have issued a voluntary recall concerning two batches of lime originating from Brazil, marketed by the Fazenda and Georges Helfer brands. Distributed throughout the country, these products contain pesticide levels that exceed legal limits. Faced with this situation, consumers are invited to be vigilant and follow official recommendations. Here is all the information on the subject.
The recalled products are Tahiti lemons in bulk and fillets of 500 g.
The first batch, sold under the Fazenda brand, is packaged in bulk of 4.5 kg and was marketed between September 23 and October 8, 2024 in Leclerc stores throughout France.
The second, marketed under the Georges Helfer brand, concerns 500 g fillets also sold between September 23 and October 8, 2024. These fillets are distributed in the Leclerc, Carrefour and Intermarché brands.
All recalled products come from batch BR34280.
The main reason for this recall is the exceeding of the authorized thresholds of pesticides in lemons. This excess could pose risks to the health of consumers. Indeed, prolonged exposure to pesticides in excessive quantities can cause harmful effects on health, including neurological, hormonal disorders, or even cancer. Although one-off consumption may not represent an immediate danger, authorities prefer to act as a precaution, urging consumers not to take risks.
If you have purchased lemons from one of the affected batches, it is strongly recommended that you no longer consume them. You are invited to destroy the product or return it to the point of sale where it was purchased, in order to benefit from the compensation terms offered by the brands. It is also advisable to check the information displayed in store for specific refund or exchange conditions.
This lemon recall highlights the importance of vigilance in respecting food standards. If in doubt, it is best to follow the recommendations of the health authorities. Consumers should remain mindful of the products they purchase and regularly review available food recall information.
