Maduro regime denounces arrest of Venezuelan opposition leader Williams Dávila

The Venezuelan opposition has denounced a new arrest by the regime of Nicolás Maduro. The arrest is of Williams Dávila, former governor and deputy of Mérida, according to information provided by the team of opposition leader María Corina Machado.

Where was Williams Dávila captured?

According to the complaint, Williams Dávila was arrested when he was in Plaza de los Palos Grandes, in Caracas, participating in a vigil called by the opposition.

The event took place on Thursday, August 8, 2024, to demand the release of political prisoners in Venezuela. As of Thursday night, the whereabouts of Williams Dávila were unknown.

Nicolás Maduro ordered the blocking of the social network X

The complaint about Dávila’s arrest was filed hours after Nicolás Maduro gave the order to take social network X out of circulation for ten days.

The Venezuelan president made this decision so that the company, owned by South African tycoon Elon Musk, could present “precautions” to the authorities of the Caribbean country.

At a political event, the Venezuelan president explained that he signed the proposal to suspend X, drawn up by the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel), with the aim of “enforcing the laws.”

“X out of Venezuela for 10 daysto present documents and to establish the final administrative measure, but enough is enough, Enough of trying to sow violence, hatred, of trying to attack Venezuela from abroad“said Nicolás Maduro, who has accused Elon Musk of being part of a “cyber coup” against him.

Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE) declared Nicolás Maduro’s victory after the July 28 elections, but has not published the electoral records certifying his victory, as required by law.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), the main opposition coalition that had Edmundo González as its presidential candidate, released 81% of the votes, which show, according to anti-Chavez supporters, that their candidate won by a wide margin, sparking protests in the country that have already left more than 20 dead and more than 2,400 arrested.
