O The earthquake occurred at a depth of almost 50 kilometers below the seabed in the waters off the Kamchatka Peninsula, about 90 kilometers east of the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, according to the same source.
Initial information does not mention the existence of material damage or victims.
The tsunami warning initially issued by the USGS was later withdrawn.
The local branch of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry also announced that there was “no threat of a tsunami.”
The Russian ministry’s office wrote on the Telegram social network that “teams of rescuers and firefighters are inspecting buildings” in the region.

Several aftershocks of lesser intensity were recorded later, the Kamchatka branch of the Russian Geophysical Service wrote on its website.
The Kamchatka Peninsula is the meeting point of the Pacific and North American tectonic plates, which makes the region one of the most active seismic zones on the planet.
