They took him out of a restaurant

Speaking to the BBC, Oliver, of South African origin, revealed that in August, while receiving treatment at King’s College Hospital in London, He decided to leave the medical center for a moment to eat at a nearby restaurant, since he was tired of the clinic’s food.

The patient suffers from neurofibromatosis tipo 1which, according to the Mayo Clinic, is a rare genetic condition that causes skin changes and tumors in nerve tissue. Although they are benign in most cases, they can cause learning problems, heart and vascular conditions, and vision loss.

Oliver found a place, but seeing a sign that said they only accepted cash, he decided to leave to go get money. When he returned to place an order, they asked him to leave the store.

They told me to please leave because, in their words, I was “scaring the customers” and there had been complaints about me. Not enough time had passed between the time I was first there and the time I returned for anyone to file a complaint about me, for which obviously the restaurant staff were not happy with my appearance“he commented.

Given the refusal, he decided to leave the premises quickly. Subsequently, he decided to file a formal complaint with the restaurant, but, when he received no response, he informed the police of the incident, which was classified as a “hate crime.”

Oliver Bromley had to have his right eye removed a couple of years ago.

The importance of awareness

The man confessed that it is common for people to ask him questions about his condition, but What happened in the restaurant had been something “horrible”, something that demonstrated a serious lack of education in the place.

They probably thought having tumors was contagious or something.“commented the man, who highlighted the importance of raising awareness of the differences.

Following the discriminatory act, the charity Nerve Tumors UK spoke out, saying that they were disappointed by this, but that unfortunately it is common. For this reason, they decided to offer to work hand in hand with the hotel sector in order to raise awareness about this type of problem.
