“QAny interference in Russia’s internal affairs will be severely punished, in accordance with Russian laws”, said the Russian head of state, who is running for re-election, according to AFP news agency.

In a televised meeting with party leaders from the lower house of the Russian parliament, Vladimir Putin stressed that he defends the freedom of the people of Russia and their sovereignty.

“We defend the freedom of our people, their sovereignty and the right to choose their future. It is the people and only the people of Russia who are the only source of power in our country,” he said.

The Russian President also thanked members of the parties present in parliament who are participating in the “special military operation” in Ukraine, “fighting together for Russia” and those who are helping soldiers and their families.

The Russian military offensive on Ukrainian territory, launched on February 24, 2022, plunged Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since the Second World War (1939-1945).
